Are you supposed to take your FCS fins off your surfboard before putting it into a day bag?

I very recently purchased my first surfboard with removable fins, FCS style. Am I supposed to kill them every time I travel with my board in it's bag? If I have to I will, but I want other surfers conviction, since I've got a mixed bag of answer from my friends, thanx guys.
when rightful moving the board around from my house to my car to the beach and back .. i pull up stakes them on (most people do)
but when moving to another house or taking the board on a uniform -- definitely remove the fins or they will crack.
